Gili Trawangan Indonesia - Destionation Info

If Robinson Crusoe would have had the choice on which islands he would like to get stranded, he would have surely chosen one of the Gili islands: Three picturesque coral islands, fringed with white sand beaches and crystal clear water.

The Gili islands, Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, lay just off the north-western coast of Lombok and are reachable by boat in 10 to 20 minutes. They attract visitors and backpackers from around the world for their superb diving and snorkelling and the unique "Gili-Feeling".

Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the Gili islands but you can easily walk around, ride a bicycle or use a Cidomo (horsecar). Although development has touched the three Gilis, the islands preserve their peaceful and relaxed charms. The calmness and relaxation feeling will surprise you and put you in the perfect “Holiday-mode” that you came for.

What can you do on the Gili islands?

With water temperatures on average 28 °C, most of the action on the Gili islands takes place on or in the water. The dive spots around the Gili islands cater for all divers’ tastes serious dive enthusiasts to novices, from big stuff to small macro, from easy and calm to drift diving and from walls and slopes to the famous Bounty wreck.

Snorkelers admire the beautiful reefs just in front and swimmers enjoy the perfect turquoise bathtub that the sparkling ocean around has to offer. Fans of action might try parasailing or surfing on Gili Trawangan. Explorers take a bicycle to circuit the islands or climb the highest spot on Gili T. to take a glimpse of the surrounding.

Others just grab a hammock and a fresh coconut juice and don’t leave that for all the day. Besides the day activities, the Gili islands are known for their established night life.

Why Gili Trawangan is our choice

Gili Trawangan is the biggest and most popular of the three Gili islands and has the most to offer in brilliant dive sites, charming accommodation and restaurants and a vivid nightlife. Even with these amenities, the island retains the magic of a tropical island with no motorbikes, pollution and an eco-friendly environment.

Gili Trawangan has the only island here with “swimmable” beaches without reef just in front of the DSM Dive shop. From the turtle breeding station on the island young baby turtles get regularly released.

With Shark Point, Coral Fan Garden and the Manta Point, the best dive spots are found around Gili Trawangan. All in all Gili Trawangan is a magical place with sun, sand, sea and the radiantly colored underwater world.

What are those birds doing on Gili Meno?

Gili Meno is that island in the middle and is the smallest one of the three Gili islands with the lowest population. Visitors come to Gili Meno mainly for romantic escapes and a change to rejuvenate in the natural beauty of the island’s deserted beaches.

There is a lake in the middle of the island and a bird sanctuary. Meno Wall and the Bounty Wreck are our favourite divespots around Gili Meno, reachable in 5 minutes from our Dive shop on Gili Trawangan.

Why Gili Air is called the "local island"

Gili Air has the largest local population of the three islands, combining the charm of a tropical island with access to the local people and culture that make Lombok unique. This island is the closest to the mainland Lombok.

It is very easy to reach the other islands by local boats. Gili Air is developing more and more hotels building up on the main road. Its party life with goa-parties is taking place on the beach. The reef around the island is excellent for diving and snorkelling for example at Air Wall or Frog Fish Point.
